Save at annual consignment sale events (Video)

Selling and shopping second hand has become popular lately especially at consignment sale events. They take place only twice a year where families take advantage of low prices, consign (sell) and or volunteer hours before, during and after the sale.

Select buildings or spaces are transformed into temporary stores within hours with the help of volunteers just in time to receive thousands of merchandise. Merchandise that as soon as the doors open are sold quickly.

The sale event gives families and individuals the opportunity to advertise child related businesses, save money, resell, recycle and recuperate some of their investments. They provide the opportunity to earn money quickly by cleaning out closets and play areas. It’s about helping families clothe their children frugally and fashionably.

Most of the consignment events have a presale/private sale followed by public sale days which includes a half day sale. The consignor (seller) slots are immediately filled as more and more families become aware of consignment sales and participate. Consignors are able to make more money at consignment sale events than at local consignment stores - 60 to 75% depending on the franchise. Each consignor not only sets the prices but also makes sure items are sellable, within selling guidelines and must pass inspection. Consignors also have a choice whether to pick up unsold merchandise or donate them.

Volunteers are needed for different tasks from setting up to breakdown, cashiers, baggers, greeters among many other tasks. Volunteers also have incentives of shopping at private/presales, if consigning fees might be waived and earn extra on sales.

Items sold range from preemie, toddlers, children and teens clothes to maternity wear. There is also baby gear – strollers, high chairs, car-seats, playpens, activity toys, carriers, layette, feeding supplies, diaper bags; children’s furniture and decor – cribs, children’s beds, changing tables, crib bedding; child proofing supplies and monitors; toys and games; CD’s, books, DVD’s, and much more.
