The Saturday before Halloween, the city of Savannah was overrun by dogs of all shapes and sizes for the 2013 Wag-o-ween walk downtown.
Hundreds of dog owners strolled with pets in costume through the historic district to go trick or treating doggy bag style, collecting dog treats from nearly 100 participating vendors and stopping to dine outdoors with their pooches or order an ice cream cone at Leopold's while enjoying a pleasant fall afternoon with their pups.
There were beagles and Basset hounds, mutts and malamutes dressed as vampires, witches, Harry Potter, prison escapees and of course hot dogs, bacon and eggs.
The dogs brought tears of laughter from passerby and tourists who stopped to ask questions of the dog owners and to take pictures that were sure to make their trip to Savannah even more memorable.
The Humane Society of Greater Savannah (HSGS) also hosted a doggy costume contest with on-line votes still being taken on their Facebook page, but hurry if you want to vote for your favorite dog at: https://www.facebook.com/wagoween.savannah.ga
