Savannah, Georgia is rich in culture and beauty, from its deep and intriguing history to its charming city squares located under towering oaks and swaying Spanish moss. A stroll around the city will yield such evidence, creating a sense of ease that the Savannah lifestyle provides.

The Hostess City offers a great deal in Southern charm and sass, and one of the best ways to experience this is in Savannah’s eclectic and exquisite cuisine.

With so many restaurants and cafes to choose from it’s hard to decide where to eat. There are a few places, however, that you must hit up during your visit to Savannah, one of which adds Southern flair to gourmet cooking and grants itself the title of a foodie’s paradise.

Located on Barnard Street, off of Telfair Square, you’ll find a narrow staircase that will take you below street level to a place with low, romantic lighting, stone floors, a gorgeous bar, and beautiful murals of piano keys and music notes, creating the essence of Southern spirit in one of Savannah’s best restaurants: Alligator Soul.

Allow the elegance and understated sense of cool captivate you as you settle in for one of the best meals in Savannah.

Start off with a local bourbon flight, and taste the flavors of Georgia. Peruse the extensive wine, cocktail, and beer list, or ask your server for a recommendation. The staff at Alligator Soul is friendly and knowledgeable, willing to assist.

You won’t want to miss out on any of the appetizers, so try out the Parmesan crusted fried green tomatoes with a chipotle aioli sauce and pickled vegetables; a twist on the Southern classic. Choose between various main courses, from a local catch, to bison, to meats more exotic, such as elk or camel. The plate presentation is superb, and the taste is even better.

Don’t forget to end your meal with one of the many delicious desserts featured on the Alligator Soul menu. I suggest the Banana Beignets, served with vanilla bean ice cream and cinnamon wontons- to die for.

Alligator Soul is certainly a foodie’s paradise, making it a must try while in Savannah. Whether you are looking for a great place for a celebration, a nice dinner, or to expand your palate (go ahead, try the camel!) Alligator Soul is the perfect restaurant. Enjoy a bold taste of Savannah’s delectable cuisine.
