Historic homes in Savannah, Georgia throw open their doors and garden gates in the city's 78th annual tour of homes and gardens from March 21 through 24.
Savannah's 2.5 mile square historic district is the largest urban historic district in the U.S. The district is laid out around 21 park-like squares, surrounded by historic homes and other buildings. The city also boasts a restored waterfront area, historic cemeteries, and market areas.
The tour of homes and gardens is a self-guided walking tour supplemented with a series of special events, entertainment and dining opportunities. Tickets are required for all events; walking tours are $45 and other events include craft demonstrations ($30), luncheons ($35), and special guided tours ($40-$90). Tickets can be booked online at the Savannah Tour of Homes website.
Visitors can take advantage of Savannah's hotels and inns, including properties located within the historic district. The tour website includes a selection of lodging links. Others, such as the historic Foley House Inn or the waterfront Hyatt Regency, can be booked separately.
