Authorities in Savannah arrested John Albert Spaulding on Wednesday and charged him with multiple counts of animal cruelty and neglect after finding two malnourished dogs and one deceased dog at his property on the 1200 block of Damon Street reports savannahnow.com.

A live, undernourished pit bull mix was being held in a pen with a decaying dog's body. Another skinny dog was tethered to a fence.

The dogs displayed injuries consistent with dog fighting. The dogs were removed from the property and treated at an emergency vet.

Spaulding has been charged with three counts of animal cruelty, two counts of not having current vaccinations for the dogs, two counts of no licenses, one count of animal neglect, one count of tethering a dog, and one count of failure to report a dead dog as according to Georgia law.

The dogs are now in the care of the city.
