Saul Alvarez versus Alfredo Angulo is ‘a good fight for the fans’

Saul Alvarez said during Tuesday’s international press conference that his upcoming bout versus Alfredo Angulo is “a good fight for the fans.”

Alvarez (42-1-1, 30 KOs) will face the 31-year-old Angulo (22-3, 18 KOs) on March 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Canelo, who plans to scrap three times in 2014, last vacated the squared circle on September 15 after getting universally outscored by Floyd Mayweather.

Although Alvarez didn’t perform poorly and consistently forced the action, Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) landed flush shots for 36 minutes that flustered and slowed the youngster.

“Nobody ever wants to lose. But, I see it as a learning experience and I’m going to take the best out of it,” said Alvarez, 23, who began boxing professionally at the ludicrous age of 15.

Meanwhile, Angulo suffered a brutal 10th round TKO defeat to Cuban Erislandy Lara in June.

Angulo, who competed for Mexico at the 2004 Summer Olympics and once trumped Timothy Bradley in an amateur contest, twice floored Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs).

However, the match was halted shortly after Lara connected with a savage blow that fractured Angulo’s left orbital bone.

Lara’s an exciting brawler who lacks fear and demands respect.

Regrettably for the former Olympian, Alvarez is a powerful bruiser whose punches land with resounding thuds.

“We made the decision that Angulo had the best style for me,” said Alvarez. “He’s strong, comes forward and is exciting. It’s a good fight for the fans and I’m not taking him lightly.”

Still capable of maturing into an elite pugilist, it’s hard to envision that Alvarez will lose consecutive fistfights.

Plus, considering the severity of Angulo’s recent wound, the fierce redhead is likely way too potent for the older Mexican.

Expect Saul Alvarez to quickly “take the best out of” Alfredo Angulo and earn a knockout within nine rounds approximately six weeks from this evening.
