Although unofficial on a card being headlined by legend Floyd Mayweather Jr, Mexican superstar and WBC light middleweight titleholder Saul “Canelo” Alvarez tweeted he will clash with WBA light-middleweight champion “No Doubt” Austin Trout on May 4 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"Canelo vs. Trout May 4 MGM," tweeted Alvarez, 22, along with an Instagram pairing in-the-ring victory photos of both prizefighters.
Alvarez (41-0-1, 30 KOs) last scrapped in September with an easy defense of his crown against interim WBC welterweight titlist Josésito López.
Comparatively, the 27-year-old Trout (26-0, 14 KOs) recently impressed with a resounding unanimous decision triumph over Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto on December 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Trout, a southpaw who is a native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, is a defensive wizard with a prolific jab and great intelligence.
Unfortunately for the New Mexican with feathery fists, Alvarez, who began boxing professionally at the ludicrous age of 15, is a powerhouse rightfully considered the elite welterweight prospect in the world.
Canelo Alvarez is a thunderous slugger and the redhead will floor Austin Trout within 10 rounds should they tussle on Cinco de Mayo weekend.
