Saul Alvarez says he’s ‘really ready’ for Erislandy Lara

Mexican bruiser Saul Alvarez says he’s “always done very well against southpaws” and is “really ready” for Erislandy Lara this summer.

Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KOs) will throw fists with the 31-year-old Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs) on July 12 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Lara (19-1-2, 12 KOs), a lefty who defected from Cuba in 2008, last vacated the squared circle on December 7 after universally outscoring Austin Trout to capture the WBA light middleweight title.

"I've always done very well against southpaws,” said Alvarez, 23, who began boxing professionally at the ludicrous age of 15.

“I'm able to take advantage of their defense and I'm able to adapt to any style. I don't have a problem with them. I've prepared very well and I'm working hard. My sparring partners are actually helping me quite a bit. So I'm preparing very well for Lara's technique and I'm really ready."

Rebounding from a loss to Floyd Mayweather, Alvarez most recently earned an emphatic 10th round TKO victory over Alfredo Angulo in March.

Using brilliant movement and a diversified attack, Canelo landed left hooks, straight rights and uppercuts at will.

Looking sharp, fast and powerful, Alvarez quickly established that the 31-year-old Angulo (22-4, 18 KOs) wasn’t a worthy adversary.

Considering the fierce redhead has “always done very well against southpaws,” Alvarez should easily penetrate Lara’s guard and cause damage.

Known as “The American Dream,” Erislandy Lara will be rendered unconscious by Saul Alvarez within nine rounds roughly three weeks from tonight in Sin City.
