Microsoft has named their new CEO, and that man is Satya Nadella. A 22 year veteran of the company, Nadella previously served as Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group. That division developed one of the largest cloud infrastructures in the world, which among other outlets serves the Xbox division.
Microsoft released a statement from Nadella, where he noted the need to bring new products to the marketplace faster than before, saying
“Microsoft is one of those rare companies to have truly revolutionized the world through technology, and I couldn’t be more honored to have been chosen to lead the company. The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must focus clearly, move faster and continue to transform. A big part of my job is to accelerate our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly.”
Microsoft founder Bill Gates will also take on a new role, stepping down as Chairman of the Board of Directors and transitioning into a Founder and Technology Advisor on the Board of Directors, assuming a more active role in the company and assisting Nadella with "technology and product direction." Gates said the following:
“During this time of transformation, there is no better person to lead Microsoft than Satya Nadella. Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together. His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
While no immediate announcements have been made regarding the Xbox division, there have been multiple rumors of a white version of the Xbox One, along with the return and remastering of several long time franchises coming this year.
