On Saturday at 4 p.m., Unitarian Universalist Justice Ohio (UUJO) will hold a rally at the Ohio Statehouse co-sponsored by the ACLU, Ohioans to Stop Executions, and the Ohio Organizing Collaborative with endorsements by over 20 faith groups, unions, professional associations, and community-based rights organizations.
The Standing on the Side of Justice rally will call on state lawmakers to:
- End the War on Drugs and mass incarceration
- Break the barriers to reentry from incarceration for returning citizens
- Stop proposed "stand your ground" legislation
- Halt the death penalty in Ohio
The rally will feature testimonials from a returning citizen and exoneree, speakers from the ACLU, Stand Up for Ohio, and the Ohio Student Association, with a keynote by Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ of Ohioans to Stop Executions.
Speakers from the ACLU, the Ohio Organizing Collaborative, Stand Up for Ohio, and Ohioans to Stop Executions will be joined by over 70 singers of the World House Choir. Rev. Susan Richie of the North Unitarian Universalist Congregation will open the program following a choral prelude at 3:50 PM.
You can RSVP for the rally on Facebook.
UUJO unites Ohio Unitarian Universalist social justice activists in a statewide network coordinating liberal religious advocacy in local communities, the state, and beyond.
