For those Central Iowans venturing out into the cold on Saturday night to enjoy some live music, here is a look at some of the night's top concerts.

Vaudeville Mews in Des Moines will host the Waka Winter Classic tomorrow night at 9 p.m. The Waka Winter Classic tour travels from city to city giving bands at each stop a chance to compete for a spot on stage at the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival on Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas in June. This year's Wakarusa lineup already includes the likes of The Flaming Lips, Umphrey's McGee, STS9, Boombox, Bassnectar, the John Butler Trio, The String Cheese Incident, EOTO, and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Competing Saturday night will be Des Moines alt-rockers Cirrus Minor, West Des Moines folk rockers Franklin's Basement, Ames rockers Fuzzy Logic, Des Moines groove rockers Mighty Shady (last year's Des Moines Waka winner and last week's Summer Camp: On the Road winner), and Iowa City psychedelic dance rockers Zeta June. There will be a $5 cover for this 21-and-over event. The winner will be chosen based on audience response.

DG's Tap House in Ames will host a trio of Ames acts on Saturday night. Secret Freedom, Volcano Boys, and Flavor Basket will all grace the Tap House stage for sets at this free show. The music starts at 9 p.m., and you must be 21 or older to attend.

Cedar Rapids surf rockers The Surf Zombies will play the Gas Lamp in Des Moines on Saturday night at 9 p.m. The band just self-released their fourth CD, It's a...Thing: Astonishing Tales of Whoa, this week. The 21+ show has a $5 cover.

One of the nation's top KISS tribute bands, Almost KISS will headline a night of rock at Des Moines' Krazee Kafe. The band appeared on Gene Simmons' Family Jewels and is one of only six KISS tribute bands that is endorsed by Gene Simmons himself. Opening the show will be locals Devil's Deck and Odebolt, Iowa's Stone Park Ritual. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $10 and they may be purchased at the Krazee Kafe bar. You must be 18+ to attend.

If rock is not your cup of tea, perhaps you should catch jazz guitarist Corey Christiansen at the Patty and Fred Turner Jazz Center on the Drake University campus in Des Moines tomorrow night. Christiansen will be performing as part of the continuing Synergy Jazz Foundation Concert Series. He will be performing music from his latest album, Lone Prairie. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students, and they may be purchased through MidwesTix. Tickets jump to $20 for adults and $15 for students at the door. The show is open to all ages.
