Back in November, Examiner announced that the Experience Hendrix Tour would be coming to Ames, and now the day is here. Tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Stephens Auditorium, some of the world's best musicians will pay tribute to, arguably, the greatest guitar player of all time—Jimi Hendrix. A few tickets ($55 to $78) are still available for tonight's show, and they can be purchased at the Stephen's Auditorium box office starting at 6 p.m.
Experience Hendrix, LLC was started by Jimi's father, James “Al” Hendrix, to preserve his son's legacy. After regaining control of his son's catalog and copyright rights, James later started the Experience Hendrix Tour to continue to spread his son's legacy to the masses—to keep Jimi's loyal followers enthralled and to introduce Jimi's music to new generations.
This year's Experience Hendrix Tour features some of music's top names. Scheduled to perform in Ames tonight will be Billy Cox (part of The Jimi Hendrix Experience), blues legend Buddy Guy, Zakk Wylde (former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist and founder of Black Label Society), Grammy Award winning blues rock guitarist Jonny Lang, Billboard Music and Blues Music Award winning blues rock guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dweezil Zappa, Grammy winning guitarist Eric Johnson, Doyle Bramhall II (guitarist/co-producer for Eric Clapton), Cesar Rosas and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Stevie Ray Vaughan drummer Chris Layton, blues rock guitarist (and sometimes vocalist for Three 6 Mafia) Eric Gales, Indigenous guitarist and vocalist Mato Nanji, Dani Robinson of Dirty Seedz, and Hendrix tribute musician Stan Skibby. This could be the concert of the year for rock and blues fans. If you have the chance to go, don't miss it.
