Saturday Night Live recap: Justin Timberlake proves he is more than worthy

Justin Timberlake had the dubious honor of hosting SNL for the fifth time on Saturday. There has been a lot of skepticism about whether or not this time the show would be a flop.

Timberlake opened the night with his impression of Elton John. He sang a re-revised version of “Candle in the Wind.” It was a spoof about the former President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez who recently passed away. The song was somewhat funny and had to have left fans wondering if the night was going to get better. Luckily it did.

The good folks at Saturday Night Live obviously weren’t going to take any chances as they brought in an elite group of five timers to ensure success. Powerhouse guests like Tom Hanks, Chevy Chase and Alec Baldwin were among them.

Memorable moments from the night include a dating show segment. Dan Ackroyd and Steve Martin were hilarious during this skit and fans certainly must have been grateful for SNL bringing them in.

Justin cut loose in his “Veganville” segment where his sense of humor and mad talent was once again displayed. This guy is just fun to watch.

The great thing about having JT host the show is fans also have the pleasure of watching Timberlake in action as the musical talent. To top it off, a special guest joined him on stage last night. It was none other than the one and only Jay Z. Talk about packing a punch! How does it get any better than that?

SNL’s Bill Hader was very entertaining as he joined Seth Myers at the news desk for the weekend update and his dialogue was so funny he couldn’t stop laughing throughout the scene.

Next up was a skit where the cast went back to roman times and JT played the part of Caligula, an alcoholic sex addict. “The Tales of Sober Caligula” was certainly not the highlight of the evening and basically went in one ear and out the other.

Bangor, Maine took a hit below the belt as the cast let loose with a scene that mocked New Englanders called “Maine Justice.” It was a “Judge Judy” rip off. The weird accents gave the impression that they were in the deep south. Once you got past all of that, the overacting was enough to laugh at but it was not side-splitting funny by any means.

The Three Amigos took the stage in full costume to introduce Justin’s next number. Magically any mediocre scenes from the night were instantly washed away by his energetic performance. This guy is truly one of the most talented performers of our time. He lives, eats and breaths music and it shows every time he takes the stage.

So, was Justin Timberlake’s fifth time on SNL a charm? It would have to be considered a success.

Fans will surely welcome him back as many times as he wants because this guy is truly an entertainer in every sense of the word.

Wouldn't it be nice if Timberlake joined the cast for a little while?
