'Saturday Night Live': Jon Hamm, Rihanna, and the return of Shy Ronnie (video)

Going into this episode of "Saturday Night Live," it was safe to say that expectations were just a little bit higher comapred to what we have seen in the past month or so. That's not to say anything against Emma Stone or any of the other past hosts -- rather, it's a compliment to Jon Hamm and what we've already seen out of him during his prior two gigs as a host. The man is consistently funny, and can even play a variety of characters well.

We saw this early and often through his show that Hamm could deliver, and he did from his opening monologue to some of the later sketches in the show. There were also a few pieces that worked even with him taking a lesser role -- the most significant one being the return of Rihanna and Shy Ronnie.

It's true that not everyone liked this sketch the first time, when Rihanna and Ronnie seemed a bit more misplaced in a classroom. However, it was still hilarious from this standpoint -- and it was even funnier with the two of them working as bank robbers. Rihanna again sang all of her lines, and whenever she cued to Ronnie he wouldn't do anything until she left the room. The inclusion of Jon Hamm at the end? Priceless.

In a day of age when so many people criticize this show for writing, you really have to commend "SNL" for this season thus far -- there have been a few weaker installments (Bryan Cranston), but overall this year has been a marked improvement.

What did you think of Hamm's job?
