'Saturday Night Live': Charles Barkley's show draws huge numbers

The ratings are in, and this weekend's edition of "Saturday Night Live" ended up drawing some of the biggest numbers we have seen for the show in quite some time.

Overall, the show drew a household rating of 7.8 -- which is the highest number it has received since the show hosted by Jim Carrey last year. Meanwhile, its 4.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic is its strongest number since the season finale with Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake last May.

As for why these numbers were so strong, credit NBC for thinking smart. The network had a huge lead-in audience courtesy of an NFL wild-card playoff game, and they booked a host in Charles Barkley who is a memorable figure in the field of sports (even if it is not basketball).
