Stumped on how to teach math? The Middle School Mathematics Institute is offering Saturday seminars for teaching math using the Singapore method. The half-day seminars (9 am-2 pm) are $20 and will help orient instructors to both the big picture goals of each year of elementary math instruction as well as the detailed methods and tasks used in individual lessons.
The next session is Saturday November 12 and it will focus on a general overview of what math children in elementary grades need to know to be prepared for Algebra 1, and then focuses on multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. The final session, scheduled for Saturday, January 14, will offer the same focus but for older students (5th grade and up, depending upon mathematical ability).
Each session will begin at 9 AM and end at 2 PM, and will consist of lecture and discussion, with ample time for questions and answers. There will be two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute break for lunch. The location offers common space for lunch (not provided), plus kitchen amenities.
Seminars are held at CoCo Collaborative and CoWorking Space, Lowertown Saint Paul, 213 East Fourth Street, Suite 400 St. Paul, MInnesota 55101
