A grand opening is planned for Saratoga Stud in mid-December. Formerly Highcliff Stallions, the new Saratoga Stud is a stallion complex featuring a full-service breeding facility. It is located just east of New York’s Saratoga Springs.
Saratoga Stud is headed up by owner Rick Burke, and by resident veterinarian Dr. C. Lynwood O’Cain and his wife, Suzie. Both of the O'Cains had plenty of experience with Highcliff Farm with Dr. O’Cain in charge of the entire breeding operation for 23 years, and Suzie heading up stallion promotion and development.
Part of the new stallion operation is on Irish Hill Century Farm, owned by Burke. It is in close proximity to Stillwater. The Irish Hill complex has been operational since 1883 with its specialty being broodmare care and foaling. It will now also house Thoroughbred boarding, transportation and sales preparation.
The O’Cains are absolutely delighted to be a part of the Saratoga Stud and to join Rick Burke.
Managing a stallion operation is what we have done for 23 years and we are delighted to be totally involved and immersed in it again. Doing this in a new facility, along with the close proximity to Saratoga Race Course affords us the opportunity to attract quality stallions to complement our current stallion roster.
Everyone involved with the Saratoga Stud operation is looking forward to the grand opening and welcoming the public, stallion and broodmare owners and interacting with the horses.
At the present time, the Saratoga stallion roster includes these horses: Cosmonaaut, Bob and John, Congaree, Maybry’s Boy, Smart Bid, and Stonesider.
