On the up-and-coming one-year anniversary of the release of his single, “You're Beautiful Today (Erin's Song)," Sarasota Singer/Songwriter, James Cademan has announced that he will be donating all proceeds made from the download sales of the song to a children’s charity.
Below is the official press release issued to the St. Petersburg Live Music Bar Scene Column on December 6th by James Cademan:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
On December 21, 2011 James Cademan, singer/songwriter from Sarasota, Florida, celebrates the one year anniversary of the release of "You're Beautiful Today (Erin's Song)". Cademan, the parent of a child with an autoimmune disease called Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM), has written an inspirational song about his daughter's experience with JDM. "You're Beautiful Today (Erin's Song)" can be downloaded from www.JamesCademan.com/store. All proceeds from downloads will benefit The CureJM Foundation. For more info about JDM please visit www.CureJM.com.
As mentioned in the official press release, James Cademan has a personal connection to Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM). Cademan’s own daughter, Erin, was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease at the young age of 5 years old.
“In May of 1999, Erin began to experience difficulty walking up and down the stairs in our home. We noticed that she was constantly fatigued and wasn’t the same spunky and energetic 5 year old she was just weeks earlier. In addition, she had developed a pronounced rash on her face and neck. Within days she was hardly able to walk at all. Within a few weeks erin was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis [JDMS], a debilitating autoimmune disease.
Through the intervention of Dr. Lauren Pachman and her staff at Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago Illinois, Erin underwent three years of aggressive treatment. It is with great joy we report that Erin, who is now 17, has been in remission for 9 years and survived JDMS with no ill effects. She is a beautiful young woman with her whole life ahead of her.
I wrote this song to tell her story. My hope is that Erin’s story will be a source of hope and encouragement to all families effected by JDMS." - James Cademan
The incidence rate of JDMS is approximately 300 to 500 new cases annually in the United States alone. JDMS effects an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 children. The Cure JM Foundation was established in October of 2003 with the goal of raising awareness of this rare disease, along with funding research in hopes of finding a cure.
