After an impressive season opening win over the Tampa Bay Stallions, the Sarasota Millionaires were jolted back to the reality that football is a week-in, week-out grind in a 32-28 loss at home to the Bay Area Pirates last Saturday. Falling behind 29-0 barely into the second quarter, the Millionaires did mount a charge and nearly came back all the way with 22 unanswered points, but fell short in losing their first game in the UFF.
On Saturday, the Millionaires travel to Pt. Charlotte to face another divisional opponent, the Florida Veterans who have racked up 111 points in its two wins so far, including 88 last week against the Cape Coral Wolves. The unbeaten Veterans (2-0) lead the South Florida Conference West Division by a game over the (1-1) Millionaires.
Sarasota head coach Ernest Givins warned against a letdown after the Millionaires won its inaugural game against the Stallions in Oldsmar in week one. Team practices this week were going to be intense as the Moneymen get ready to hit the road against the Veterans in an important early season divisional matchup.
The game will be played at Franz Ross Park, 19355 Quesada Blvd. in Port Charlotte, FL 33948. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
