A three-month-old dachshund and chihuahua mix puppy doused with hot sauce on Sunday, allegedly by the owner's boyfriend, because the defenseless pooch was yelping as he was having a seizure, is expected to be fine reported The Tampa Tribune.

Officers from the Sarasota Police Department met the dog's owner, Kelly Ripley, at a fire station near her apartment who told authorities her boyfriend, Ephrian Myles, 47, poured a hot condiment on the puppy because he was annoyed with the dog's yelping.

At the fire station, the officers saw the small puppy named Gizmo struggling to breathe. His eyes were swollen shut; the hot sauce had been poured on his face, mouth, and body.

Officers washed the pup with cool water and wrapped him in a towel.

When officers interviewed Myles, he denied having anything to do with the situation. Authorities found hot sauce on the floor and arrested Myles who is in jail in lieu of a $5,000 bond.

Ripley has surrendered Gizmo to Animal Control. The pup is expected to make a full recovery.
