The book conservatives and liberals have been waiting for is about to be released next week. Sarah Palin's book "Going Rogue" has already been praised by conservatives like Rush Limbaugh while liberals can not wait to see what "Couric" moments the book may hold.
It turns out everyone must not wait to find out much of what is in the book. The Associated Press has obtained an advanced copy of the book and already published an article with extensive factchecks on many of Palin's claims. The AP factcheks Palin a total of twelve times on important statements and stories in the book concluding that many of her claims are distortions or simply false. Included are some of the following highlights:
- Palin claims to be a frugal traveler yet spent over $700,00 for a hotel each night she stayed in New York City for a leadership conference. Included in the cost were complimentary slippers and a robe.
- Palin attributes all the bailout to President Obama neglecting to mention that the first significant bailout actually came under the Bush administration. Palin also fudges over the fact that she expressed support for the bailout package under consideration while she was running as a Vice Presidential candidate.
- Palin holds herself as a gaurdian of ethics and opposed to any conflicts of interest. Yet in her time a Mayor of Wasilla she pressured the city council to grant a special zoning exception so she could sell her house. In addition when she and her husband owned a snow machine store she urged the city council to pass laws allowing for snow machine races in the town.
Expect more Palin news throughout the weekend and all next week as her book is released and her interview with Oprah is aired on Monday.

That is one rather silly list of offenses. Seems like the AP has a political agenda in mind, not journalism. Snowmobile legislation in Alaska? AP = Epic Fail.

Listen wondering, you can not compare being President to being a small time Governor. The President is showing the world, it’s ok to do something special for the one you love, it makes people warm a fussy he can‘t just take her to Burger King, and about Palin you can’t do that in a small State. SHE WAS THE GOVERNOR…Of course he’s the most traveled President. He has to show the world he’s Commander in Chief, and show his face around the world…
Palin is a fool. The book, like her interviews, is an embarrassment. Incapable of accepting responsibility for her own actions (and failings) she has to blame everyone else, lie and rewrite history. She is very immature, narcisistic, vapid, vindictive, defensive. For god's sake, she says on Oprah that "her family doesn't like drama", but she takes out full page ads in national magazines to answer her 19-yr old amost son-in-law's allegations about her...??
Does that sound like the kind of balanced, emotionally evolved 45 yr old woman you want representing you as a politician?

You all do realize that the AP is actually considered a more conservative source. Liberals complain about stories they do all the time. Secondly it was a pool of writers who did the story, not one lone wolf liberal on a mission. Third you do realize that Palin can be wrong right? I mean I generally support the President's policies but he can be wrong. Politifact (which you all call liberal) exposes mistatements he makes all the time. It is OK to admit that the leader of your party is not Jesus reincarnate. They are human after all. Finally no one has disputed the facts in the article. All the AP is doing is asking the "tough questions" and being a "watchdog for freedom." Why do you go after the source instead of actually disputing the facts?

The AP assigned ~11!?~ reporters to "Fact Check" the book. They were:
Calvin Woodward, Matt Apuzzo, Sharon Theimer, Tom Raum, Rita Beamish, Beth Fouhy, H. Josef Hebert, Justin D. Pritchard, Garance Burke, Dan Joling and Lewis Shaine.
Hmm seems like a lot of effort to fact check this thing, what were their results?
Well, if you calculate the number of "Errors" found by the number of people investigating, you get 1.83 Investigators per "Error".
ok, so how Earth shaking were these "factual errors"? Let's start with Ryans first one listed in the article:
Palin's Frugality: What Ryan doesn't mention in his paraphrasing of AP article is that the ONLY issue that AP can come up with that "refutes" Palin's "Frugalness" is the *4 DAYS* she spent with her Daughter at a women's Conference. The total amount in question... $3000+ (About what Obama spent the last time he had Wagyu Steak for dinner)

And what did palin say about her Frugalness?? Well according to the AP:
"PALIN: Says she made frugality a point when traveling on state business as Alaska governor, asking "only" for reasonably priced rooms and not "often" going for the "high-end, robe-and-slippers" hotels."
As Mark Steyn put it, "That looks like AP paid 1.8333333 fact-checkers to agree with Mrs Palin: She says she didn't "often" go for "high-end" hotels; they say she "usually opted for less-pricey hotels". That's gonna make one must-see edition of "Point/Counterpoint".
Or is AP arguing "four nights" counts as "often"? Is that the point? AP assigned 11 reporters to demonstrate that four is a large number?"
Although my absolute FAV "Fact Check" is when these 11 reporters actually try to "Fact Check" Palin's MOTIVATIONS!!! Ahhhh, HAHAHA!
Heh, what's next, fact checking what a conservative was THINKING when they did something?
BTW, how many AP reporters have "Fact Checked" The Audacity of Hope?
