Sarah Palin, in India to represent the US

News just in says Sarah Palin is headed to India to represent the US.

In fact, this former US vice presidential candidate 'will be the only American politican attending the conference,' according to sources who explain that this Republican will be part of The India Today Conclave to deliver the closing keynote address called My Vision of America. The two-day event, taking place at the venerable Taj Palace hotel in New Delhi, concentrates on global leadership.

Although Sarah Palin will get to reap the benefits of paying a visit to India, one of the most fascinating countries in the world, she will also likely be 'beefing up her foreign credentials,' say some pundits.

For a person who is possibly heading for a place on the ballot to compete to become the President of the United States in 2011, Sarah Palin is not known for her extensive traveling. So, this trip should be a big asset in many ways for the woman who once said she can 'see Russia from Alaska' (and Tina Fey, as Sarah Palin amended that comment to say the view was from 'her house').

You bethca Sarah Palin won't be able to see India from either platform, but being there next month will surely open this ladies' eyes to many aspects of this part of the world she probably never even thought about.

While there, Sarah Palin should practice proper etiquette to be culturally correct during her trip in India, especially while dining with other luminaries.

That said, following are some tips on how she can properly do what traditional locals do during formal banquets:

* If Sarah Palin is the guest of honor for a meal in India, she will be the first person seated at the table so she should not hang back.

* Sarah Palin should not try a taste from someone else's plate. When in India, she should eat using her right hand, and she should not hesitate to pick up food using her hands.

* Sarah Palin should always accept additional food when this is offered but she should not worry if she can't finish everything on her plate.

* If Sarah Palin takes a bite of a dish that is too spicy, prctically speaking it is better if she does not reach for her water glass to cool down but rather she should take a bite of some fruit, a tomato or some yogurt to curtail the burning sensation to which many Westerners are not accustomed.

* Sarah Palin should not necessarily expect chit chat after a formaldinner in India. Traditionally, conversation in this Asian country happens before you eat. When the meal is done, everyone typically leaves in a rather immediate fashion.

More on Sarah Palin in India as the news of her impending visit evolves.

Over all a good report Jane, but you did repeat the falsehood....
"the woman who once said she can see Russia from her house".

She did not say that, she said that you could see Russia from Alaska, which is true.

The line, "I can see Russia from my house" orginated in a skit of Tina Fey's on Saturday Night Live.

Detractors of Palin falsely attribute Fey's line to Plain in a feeble attempt to demean her.

Unfortunately a lie repeated often enough does tend to take on the appearance of truth to the ill-informed.

I sense you would not wish to contribute to its propagation.

    Cheers

  • USINDIAN 1 year ago

Tina Fey's skit used the exact same words Sarah Palin used in her interview.

  • panagwa 1 year ago

Kanawa, you are addressing the real issue with Palin's statement.

It is not whether she can see Russia from her house or you can see Russia from Alaska... the point here is that she used this a justification of her experience on foreign policy with Russia.

If that is the case, then everyone in Alaska who can see Russia is qualified as well to deal in foreign poilcy with Russia. It was a non-sensical statement.

    That is the point.

Im curious,, has Sarah ever been rude to anyone,,ever? I'm also wondering,, why does the American have to curtsey to the queen, eat with their hands, cover their heads, hold hands with the Saudi king, remove their shoes, etc, ad nauseum,,, but somehow the foreigners never have to show the slightest respect for American culture.

  • kanawa 1 year ago

    Dear USINDIAN,

If you do a minimum of research you will discover you are in error.
When you do discover the truth, you might ask yourself ,
if there are other facts you attribute to Palin that may also be erroneous.

    Cheers,
    k

Who!!! Sarah Palin doesn't represent me. NO way and NO how......

  • chris 1 year ago

True. This is the only article I've seen that says this. All others just say she's going there. Will be interesting to see how she does - she has nothing to say that will interest people in India (moose hunting, halibut clubbing, her kids, Todd, keeping jobs in US, etc). Gotta wonder if she likes Indian food.

  • Wes 1 year ago

    USINDIAN, no it did not.
Don't lie when transcripts are available.

There was nothing wrong with what Palin said.

  • Chris87654 1 year ago

WHO says Palin will "represent" the US in India? Sarah? This is a bogus headline.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Sarah Palin represents nobody except for Sarah Palin.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Kanawa....I agree with you that when a lie is continously repeated, the ignorant will believe it as truth. Another example of this type of lie is one of Fox News' talking points that President Obama apologizes for our country, as if he is ashamed of it, or that he is not proud of our country. This is a total lie, but everytime I ever turn on Fox, it is repeated constantly to program their viewers.

  • kanawa 1 year ago

These folks on Fox making these claims,
do they not give examples to back up their statements?
If so could you respond to the specific examples
and show why they are lies?

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

kanawa, read carefully. The author stated:

"So, this trip should be a big asset in many ways for the woman who once said she can 'see Russia from Alaska' (and Tina Fey, as Sarah Palin amended that comment to say the view was from 'her house')."

    Then you commented:

"Over all a good report Jane, but you did repeat the falsehood....
'the woman who once said she can see Russia from her house.'
She did not say that, she said that you could see Russia from Alaska, which is true."

And that's the problem with people nowadays. Rather than read and carefully consider, they skim through articles, looking for snippets and opinions that they assume will be there. Open your eyes.

  • Chris 1 year ago

But Sarah's comment about Russia's proximity to Alaska was used as a basis for foreign policy experience. One can't just pull a sentence and forget the context. Please read and carefully consider the following:

COURIC: You’ve cited Alaska’s proximity to Russia as part of your foreign-policy experience. What did you mean by that?

PALIN: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and on our other side, the land — boundary that we have with — Canada. It, it’s funny that a comment like that was — kind of made to cari — I don’t know. You know. Reporters —
    ......

COURIC: Explain to me why that enhances your foreign policy credentials.

PALIN: Well, it certainly does because our— our next door neighbors are foreign countries. They're in the state that I am the executive of. And there in Russia—

COURIC: Have you ever been involved with any negotiations, for example, with the Russians?

PALIN: We have trade missions back and forth. We— we do— it's very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where— where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border. It is— from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to— to our state.

    Dear Anonymous,

Another problem is that people come to article and read it thinking it is the original version of the article and not the one that Ms Lasky was good enough to amend. LOL

    Have a great day,

"Although Sarah Palin will get to reap the benefits of paying a visit to India, one of the most fascinating countries in the world, she will also likely be 'BEEFing up her foreign credentials,' say some pundits."

Not sure what benefits you speak of.

I guess it's okay to say in this article, but NEVER mention BEEF in India. Beef implies meat from cows, and cows outrank Sarah in India (and probably in some US areas too).

Bwaha!! we're Asian Nations just love it to see America is getting dumber and dumber!! sending Sarah Palin to Asia to join economic conference is laughable!! no wonder all investors are pouring to Asian countries! take a look Indonesia, South Korea...China...wow those countries are becoming the economic power! while America fighting each other for a beauty queen from Alaska. Bwahahahhaaa......

    What they actually said:

    Sarah Palin:
"You can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."

    vs

    Tina Fey:
"“I can see Russia from my house”

No private citizen "represents the US" overseas. Sarah Palin will represent Sarah Palin in India.

  • In utah 1 year ago

I am a 54 year old, college educated American woman , and proud of it. The headline says Palin is representing the U.S. Who says? She certainly isn't representing me. She is ignorant, shrill and someone who I would never spend time with. She isn't representing the United states, she is an embarassment.

  • kanawa 1 year ago

    Touting oneself as 'college educated'
and attempting to demean someone as ignorant and an embarrassment
while misspelling 'embarrassment' is a true embarrassment.

is Sarah Palin ready for REAL questions about the world and economy? if she's representing the US, she better answers the questions without cheating by picking on her hand.

Sarah Palin represents America far better than Obama does.

in what why stevo? better in embarrassing the country? ya betcha!!

For the first time in her life, Palin will leave our continent in pursuit of spreading her insane and violent rhetoric to another part of the world. What impression will the most vane and vile political figure of our time leave on the people of India? You can see my portrait and commentary on the effects of her absurd ranting on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/01/sarah-palin-made-me-do-it.html

I don't think talking with you will be useful.
I do hope you get some professional help before you hurt someone or yourself.

Obama always bows, apologies and insults America. Yes, Palin will do well in India.

  • arjaan 1 year ago

As an Indian I find this little cultural etiquette crash course rather silly. Nobody in India will be offended if she uses left hand or drinks water instead of yogurt . Personally I use left hand all the time and even I would reach for the water. And I love a good after dinner chit chat. All she need to do is concentrate on the contents of her speech because people will be listening to her seriously regardless of how poorly she is regarded in US. If she gains popularity in India, be sure she will gain financial support from the powerful Indian caucus in US during elections. All she need to do is sing the right tune with respect to Pakistan and Kashmir ....... as did David Cameron

I just want to know when did Obama ever apologize for the USA? This myth is continually spread on Fox. I want a specific example of when he said, "I apologize for the United States of America."

Oh yeah? Since WHEN does Palin represent the US and who appointed her as such? You? Palin is going there to make $$$ for herself and that's it.

"And after the conference I plan to go to their capital, Indianapolis also, too".

  • Lou Sarah 1 year ago

I have it on good authority that Palin will thank her hosts with a wink and a smile when accepting the $100,000 check that covers her speaking fee, and will turn on the charm by telling her hosts about one of her favorite Indians: Pocahontas.

    Clever, Lou Sarah, clever!
