Recently Sarah Palin took serious issue with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's use of the phrase "f**cking retards." Emanuel used the phrase in reference to progressive who are campaigning against more conservative Democrats. Palin went as far as to call for the President to fire Emanuel.
Palin also compared the word "retarded" to the "N" word saying, "Just as we’d be appalled if any public figure of Rahm’s stature ever used the “N-word” or other such inappropriate language, Rahm’s slur on all God’s children with cognitive and developmental disabilities – and the people who love them – is unacceptable, and it’s heartbreaking," Emanuel subsequently apologized for his use of the phrase.
Liberals really never came to Emanuel defense but they were quick to do some research on Palin's fellow conservatives to see if they too had used the "R" word. They did not have to look far as Rush Limbaugh was quick to start using the word himself repeatedly the next day as a sort jab toward liberals (clip below). Liberals called on Palin to condemn Limbaugh the same way she did Emanuel. Instead Palin would only use a spokesperson to say "Governor Palin believes crude and demeaning name calling at the expense of others is disrespectful." Palin never called for Limbaugh to be fired and never specifically referred to Limbaugh's name in criticizing him.
Now audio has surfaced in which Glenn Beck also makes reference to the term "retarded" and further makes fun of the entire subject matter. Palin now finds herself in a tricky situation. If she does not criticize Beck she will seem hypocritical to some. If she does criticize Beck it could make things very awkward in the Fox News workplaces now that Beck and Palin both work there.

Of course, the 'f' word adds a certain charm that could push a sensitive mother to comment when she might otherwise overlook the offense.

It's more complicated than that. She endorsed Rick Perry and is campaigning for him in Texas. Perry's chief consultant used the "r" word several times when discussing the debate in January. Palin's staff issued a mild statement. It could damage her credibility if she goes after Rahm with both guns blazing but takes a water pistol to a republican she endorses.
Oh please, Gigi. You know good and well he wasn't slurring developmentally disabled people. For as often as cons cry about the world being too PC, they sure go off the deep end when it suits their agenda.
Look, your assumption is Palin lives by some ethical standard that would require her to also condemn the likes of Beck. That's not the conservative way.
The conservative way is to turn a blind eye to any evidence that contradicts them, and only see what reinforces their bias.

So you see absolutely no distinction between use of a slur by a public servant that both represents and rules you whether you like it or not, and the use of the same slur by a private individual (regardless of his celebrity) whose opinion has no force behind it and whose performances you can patronize or not, as you choose?
