A Sarah Michele Gellar comedy show pilot, “Crazy Ones,” puts the popular “Buffy” star in a co-headline deal with Robin Williams, who will play her father in the CBS series. Two such heavy-hitting stars should be able to carry almost any show, and the Hollywood Reporter gives the details on Friday, Feb. 15.
Good writing will help, of course, and David E. Kelley, of “Boston Legal” is in charge of the script. The setting is a father and daughter advertising agency, with lots of give and take and struggles between the principals. The former vampire slayer is listed as “pretty,” “driven,” “organized,” and all the usual take-charge things. She is to be the serious one, more or less.
Her father, played by Oscar-winning comic Robin Williams – who once did the voice of the genie in “Aladdin” – is, as usual, his own frenetic self. Think characters such as Mork and Mrs.Doubtfire. Robin Williams gets the crazy stunts, while Sarah Michelle Gellar gets to do the parenting. It could work.
The pilot has yet to be shot, but all the elements are in place. The single-camera series will also star James Wolk, as a copywriter in the agency. Workplace comedies, as well as dramas, are all the rage.
