"Because I've fought at 125, they think how can I possibly hang with a girl like Sarah?" Eye says.
Eye says she'll have no problem competing in the bantamweight class, as she's had enough of cutting down to 125 pounds.
"I'm up to 20-plus fights between boxing and MMA at 125," Eye said prior to UFC 166. "I'm 27 years old now, and I'm sick of it being that hard. I'm ready to just fight. Let me have my full belly."
Eye vs Kaufman could steal the show at UFC 166, even though its not on the main card.
"I've been successful thus far because of what we've already done," Eye says. "I'd like to think the UFC (is a) good judge of fighting character – that they think I can handle it."
Heading into UFC 166, Kaufman appears to want to engage in a standup slugfest.
"Honestly, with both Alexis and Leslie, we all have such similar styles we all like to get in there and throw down, and those are the fights I like," Kaufman told MMA Fighting. "To me that’s fun. Getting hit, hitting back, having that challenge of who can go longer and faster and harder…those are the fights I love. And the fans love them, too.
"Those are the fights you make your name off of. Granted, if I got a five-second knockout, how happy would I be? Wee, happy! But I also love feeling when I leave like I was in a fight."
Kaufman thinks a win over Eye could possibly put her into a No. 1 contender match against Cat Zingano. However, she's not looking past her UFC 166 opponent.
"I think she’s a great opponent, and that it’s a very exciting fight for the fans – and it’s a very exciting fight for me," Kaufman says of Eye. "It’s going to get me in there and give me the opportunity to let loose a little bit, and have some fun. By ‘have fun’ I mean serious and focused, but I like fighting. I don’t like to have to worry too much about, what if they try and stall the fight to wrestle me down? Or whatever the case may be. I like those exciting fights and the opportunity to let loose. It’s what I like to do -- let loose and have fun in the cage."
If Eye can get a win over a top 135-pounder in her UFC debut, fight fans would instantly have a new contender in the bantamweight class.
However, a win by Kaufman would prove she's worthy of a crack at a top five contender such as Zingano.
