As part of the Strikeforce Challengers series reigning Women’s World Welterweight Champion Sarah Kaufman will take on international mixed martial arts fighter Roxanna Modafferi in a title bout at the Comcast Arena in Everett, Wash. July 23.
The yet undefeated Kaufman may still have a spotless record of 11-0, but seriously trails behind Modafferi (15-5) in fighting experience. With almost twice as many pro fights and three championships trophies on her record to include ICF, Fatal Femmes Fighting and K-Grace, Modafferi poses a real threat to Kaufman.
Kaufman's advantage is her undeniable knockout power as evident in her eight (T)KO wins. Her last three fights resulted in decisions, however, which might indicate that the quality of her opponents is steadily increasing. Needless to say, Kaufman needs to evolve as a fighter and improve her ground game so she can keep up with submission artists like Marloes Coenen when the time comes.
Modafferi certainly has some respectable ground skills (four wins via submission), but most likely won't beat Kaufman there. She might use her stamina instead and just chip away at Kaufman for five long rounds while impressing the judges (ten wins via decision).
Tickets for the event are available online. The official weigh in will take place July 22 at 7 p.m. at The Ice Box at Comcast Arena in Everett, Wash. The main card will air live on Showtime at 11 p.m. ET/PT July 23. (Click here to see the complete fight card.)
