We noticed Mom Beatriz and Dad James waiting for Princess Sarah as she fielded questions from reporters on Monday, so we asked if they were proud of their daughter. “Very proud, yes,” Dad beamed.
A Pasadenan and sophomore at Pasadena City College, 19-year-old Rose Princess Sarah Elizabeth Hansen previously attended Vanguard University and is a graduate of San Dimas High School. She hopes to transfer to UCLA or UC Berkeley to pursue a double-major of communications and dance.

Princess Sarah’s favorite thing to do in Pasadena is “explore all the different artists in the area and art museums.” Her interests range from street art to museum exhibitions, and her favorite museum is Pasadena’s Norton Simon.
“I’ve gone with friends,” she said. “I’m not an artist, but—actually, yes, I am an artist!” She said she creates whatever strikes her, but “My favorite medium is pencil.”
The multi-talented young lady teaches pre-school at Pasadena Foursquare Church, plays guitar and ukulele, and participates in dance and theater. Sarah’s parents are James V. and Beatriz Hansen, and she has three siblings, Jason Sermino, Samuel and Elizabeth.
Asked if being a Rose Princess is a dream come true for her, Sarah replied, “It was my dream ever since I was little. I remember watching the Rose Parade.”
The theme of the 125th Rose Parade and 100th Rose Bowl Game on Jan. 1, 2014 is “Dreams Come True.” The Tournament of Roses is a celebration that lasts several weeks in the fall and winter.
