“Grey's Anatomy” star Sarah Drew is pregnant and she broke the news via her Twitter page on Monday. Drew and her husband Peter Lanfer already have one child, Micah. She has shared that the new baby will arrive in December.
People adds some additional details regarding Sarah Drew's pregnancy news. She says they are “delighted to announce our pregnancy,” and they cannot wait to introduce Micah to his new little sister or brother. As “Grey's Anatomy” fans know, Drew's character April is pregnant as well, so that should make for a relatively easy time on set. Plenty of pregnancies on the “Grey's” set have needed to be hidden and covered up over the years, but it seems the timing works well on this one.
In Drew's Twitter photo she shared a shot of her expanding belly and joked, “Nope. That's not a fake belly :)” and she linked to the piece in People. She was, of course, flooded with tweets of support and excitement from fans. It would seem she's done a pretty good job of keeping this news under wraps until now, given that she's clearly showing and is due in December.
What lies ahead for April with the pregnancy on the show? “Grey's Anatomy” spoilers via TVLine indicate that season 11 picks up only a day or so beyond where season 10 wrapped. Shonda Rhimes says that the new season is “really a Meredith-centric season,” as Grey is reeling from Cristina leaving, Derek's job opportunity and the discovery of another half-sister. That said, of course there will be plenty of storylines for all of the other characters on the canvas as well and April's pregnancy will surely be central to the season.
The season 11 premiere of “Grey's Anatomy” airs on ABC on Thursday, Sept. 25. Watching April and Avery's storyline with the baby coming should be fun to watch play out on-screen, and now fans will be watching for more news on Sarah Drew's pregnancy as well. Congratulations to the actress on her new addition!
