SARAH BURTON, the late Alexander McQueen's right-hand, designed the wedding dress that today Catherine Middleton “Katy” wears in her most important day.
Burton - who grew up in Manchester and graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1997 - worked with McQueen for sixteen years. Having joined the brand in 1996, she has worked as head of women swear design since 2000 and was credited with completing the designer's autumn/winter 2010-11 collection in time for Paris Fashion Week in March, following his suicide less than a month earlier.
British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was discovered dead the 12th February 2010 after taking his own life.
The industry was left reeling after the 40-year-old's suicide, which comes just days after the death of his beloved mother, Joyce.
It is also just three years since his close friend, style guru Isabella Blow - who plucked him from obscurity and helped him become a star - killed herself.
McQueen, who was christened Lee but used his middle name as a designer, was found at his luxury flat in Mayfair, central London. It is believed he hanged himself.
One of his lines, McQ, was due to be shown at New York Fashion Week this afternoon but the show has now been cancelled.
Alexander lost his mother, we cannot imagine the suffering that he was passing through , many of us know the meaning of “mother” in our life, he had everything but for some reason he was passing for a moment that make him do what he did. Many gays around the world are killing themselves for the same reason and that must stop. Is for that reason that is many projects around the world to help us to understand our self, gay life is not easy and not that happy as “gay” word means.
