While music fans and the media often like to make hay whenever an artist is accused of sampling or ripping off another for a song, Sara Bareilles isn't concerned with the latest accusations against Katy Perry. In fact, she's embracing them.
Perry has been getting some flak over her new single "Roar", which some fans think sounds awfully similar to Bareilles' song "Brave", which came out back in April. But according to E! Online on Sep. 19, Bareilles doesn't feel that anything was taken from her artistically and didn't have any problems with it. Neither did authors like New York Daily News' Chiderah Monde, who contends the similarities are non-existent beyond the drum beat and "bouncy piano" heard throughout.
"I was stoked. I was like, 'Great,'" Bareilles said in an interview this week. "I was like, `You guys want to go get (mad) about something and buy my music, that's great.'"
Bareilles added that she and Perry are friends and says they even suggested (albeit in jest) doing a mash-up to show there are no hard feelings. Speaking of mash-ups, E! was able to find this interesting Tumblr post in which one track is laid on top of the other and the speeds are adjusted to show the similarities.
