Sappho's Salon hosts first open mic

Sappho's Salon hosts their first ever open mic this Saturday, January 16. The celebration of entertainment for lesbian women and their friends is held monthly at Women & Children First book store and always includes food and wine. Sappho's Salon has featured a variety of performances such as short story readings, poetry readings, novel readings, musical performances, comedy acts and more.

The theme of Sappho's Salon's first open mic is Queer Women Survivors. If you are a lesbian or queer identified woman who considers herself a survivor of emotional abuse, homophobia, poverty, racism or other, you are invited to bring two pages, double spaced, of poetry, journal, short-short story or personal essay. You are also welcome to share a song accompanied with or without an instrument. Sign up for open mic at 7:30 p.m.  The performance begins at 8:00 p.m.

The event will also feature Second Story regular Deb R. Lewis and music by DJ SpinNikki.

Canned and non-perishable food donations will be accepted for Sarah's Circle, a homeless shelter for women.
