Santorum beats Romney in Iowa Caucus: media narrative misleading

It turns out the corporate media has been pushing a false narrative since the Iowa Caucuses on January 3rd. According to a Janury 19 article in the Des Moines Register, The Iowa GOP is ready to certify Rick Santorum as the leading vote-getter in the Iowa Caucuses. After a recount of all available precinct by precinct votes, Santorum won by 34 votes.

Consequently, FOX News, CNN, and most of the major corporate-owned newspapers in the United States have been wrong since January 3rd. Mitt Romney did not pull out an unexpected victory in Iowa. Romney is not the first Republican Presidential candidate in the modern era to win both the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire Primary.

The important question is why did so many reporters at these mega-news outlets run with that narrative when it was clear Iowa could still go either way because the race was so close and the vote count had not been certified? The only plausible explanation is that either intentionally or unconsciously, that must have been the narrative they preferred. How will they cover this story today? Will they create an alternative narrative? How about this one?

Iowa Conservatives were so desperate for any supposedly conservative alternative to Mitt Romney that they anointed the only acceptable guy left standing and he beat Romney.

As importantly, it is beginning to look like there could have been reporting fraud in Iowa, which has supporters of Ron Paul and other candidates fuming.

According to the Register article, the GOP auditors uncovered several 'typos' in the recount, in which one digit was either added or missing. These mistakes inflated or deflated a candidate's performance in a particular precinct. More suspicious than that is that eight precinct sites are completely missing! Apparently they vanished out of thin air. Perhaps some diligent reporter can track down those precinct coordinators and find out what happened to their reports. Don't hold your breath that any reporters from FOX or CNN will be on that trail anytime soon.
