Okawa Steak House and Sushi, located at 9720 Mission Gorge Rd in Santee awaits your pleasure requests, and competes with the best. The ambience isn’t quite Benihanas, but it will do for a strip mall in Santee.
The prices are probably about right for a place that likely will be there next time you want a dinning out opportunity when you don’t want to cook, which is to say don’t come looking to do business with the $1.00 menu from a fast food joint.
What is right about this establishment is they offer a nice setting with friendly staff and food which is pretty good and the menu is very large. If you want a steak prepared hibachi style and you like people who are entertained by a chef flipping foods right in front of you then this one’s for you.
Nancy and I like this entertainment for the starving so we went and had a good time. We did the hibachi combination dinner, special for two, which consisted of chicken, shrimp, and New York steak for $44.00 and it fed us twice... once on Wednesday and again on Thursday. We got stuffed on their love both times we ate it.
While I don’t think this steak was Kobe beef, Andrew Zimmer tells me they get beef from massaged cattle just a little north east of the restaurant and I’m told they like to sing to the cattle just before they turn in for the night.
I must say that I’ll gladly head back into Okawa Steak House again and I’m hoping for sooner rather than later for an evening with friends who enjoy good food, good company and pleasant east county folks who are like minded.
