The Washington Redskins are desperate to find cap room and are projected to be $4 million over the salary cap. According to theWashington Post the Redskins could file an injunction to delay the start of free agency in an effort to get some of the cap space back lost, but odds are it will go unnoticed.
The Redskins have a few options to relieve themselves and it would only take a few moves. The problem, they would have to find replacements for those players.
One of those players on the chopping block could be 34-year old Santana Moss. The slot receiver is scheduled to count $6.2 million against the cap.
It shouldn’t be hard to find a replacement in the 2013 NFL Draft for Moss who only accounted for 573 yards. The trouble is RG3 found Moss valuable last season. He accounted for eight touchdowns, the most since his first season back in 2005 with the Redskins. They could look to restructure his contract but he would have to agree to take a massive cut. Moss hasn’t had over 1,000 yards receiving since the 2010-2011 season and has struggled with injuries during the last few years.
Another option per ESPN.com would be to cut CB DeAngelo Hall which would save the Redskins $8 million and immediately get them under.
Why not cut both and go after that No. 1 receiver Robert Griffin III needs?
