Part scary and part fall-ish, the Santa Ynez Valley Scarecrowfest is family fun that takes place in five different Central California communities. The events, which are open to the public, occur between October 11 and November 11, 2013 in Solvang, Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, Los Alamos and Buellton. Hand crafted scarecrows are entered to win the 'field' title of “2013 Harvest Cup: Best in the Valley” which will be announced on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the Wildling Museum, 1511-B Mission Drive in Solvang.
The Scarecrowfest debuted in Solvang in 2010. This fourth annual affair is sponsored by Solvang Third Wednesday (www.Solvang3rdWednesday.com) and will have on display 118 hand crafted scarecrows.
In Los Olivos, more than two dozen businesses are participating for the first time in Scarecrowfest sponsored by the Los Olivos Business Organization (www.losolivosca.com). In the ‘old west with a new twist’ community of Los Alamos, the first Scarecrowfest is being coordinated by Los Alamos Merchant Society members—a creative bunch sure to surprise with their entries inhabiting businesses such as art galleries, wine tasting rooms and restaurants along the main thoroughfare of Bell Street. The newest entry is the Buellton Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau (www.VisitBuellton.com).
