Santa returns to Kentucky parks

Santa Claus was not able to visit nearly all of Kentucky’s state parks last weekend so he and a few of his friends are making a return visit to the Commonwealth so more good little boys and girls will get a chance to present a wish list to the jolly old man before he sets out on his Christmas eve adventure.

This weekend, Santa has plans to stop for meals and photo ops at five of the state parks in the Commonwealth on Saturday, December 14, and Sunday, December 15, 2013.

At Barren River Lake State Resort Park, near Lucas, the Grinch will be on hand for the annual Breakfast with the Grinch beginning at 9:00 a.m. The menu will include green eggs and ham and the Grinch will read “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” to the little ones. After breakfast, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Santa will welcome kids (and adults also) to Santa’s Open House to see his magically decorated villa. During the open house, children can hand deliver their wish lists and also have parents snap pictures to capture this special memory.

Cost for Breakfast with the Grinch at Barren River is $7.00 per person (free for those two and under). Preregistration is recommended as space is limited; however, there will be no refunds for cancellations after December 13. Santa’s Open House is a free event. For more information at these two events or to make a reservation for breakfast, call the park at (800) 325-0057.

Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, near Corbin, will host Santa is Coming to Cumberland Falls on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The big guy will pose for pictures and accept those all-important lists. Refreshments will be provided. For more information or to make reservations for lodging at Dupont Lodge, call the park at (800) 325-0063.

Frosty will join Santa at Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, in Prestonsburg, for the annual Breakfast with Santa and Frosty on both Saturday and Sunday and again on Saturday, December 21 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The breakfast buffet is priced at $8.49 for adults; $5.49 for children 6 to 12; and free for children five and under. Both Santa and Frosty will be happy to pose for pictures during and after breakfast! Call (800) 325-0142 for more information.

Natural Bridge State Resort Park, at Slade, is also hosting a Breakfast with Santa on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The child-friendly buffet is priced at $7.99 for adults; $4.99 for children; and free for children five and under.

Pictures with Santa will be available for $5.00 but will be discounted by $2.00 with a donation of a nonperishable food item for the local food bank. For more information, call the park at (800) 325-1710.

Pine Mountain State Resort Park, in Pineville, will host a Breakfast with the Grinch on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Cost of the buffet is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids. Children can also enjoy a reading of Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” during their visit to the park.

For more information, call the park at (800) 325-1712.
