Summer is coming, what better time to find fun and different activities for you and your dog. Pourtal Wine Tasting Bar, Santa Monica has paired up with Big Sky Dogs offering an event once a month for wine and dog lovers. Wine Woof Wednesday occurs the first Wednesday of each month beginning May 5th, 7 to 9 PM, continuing through October. Enjoy a sampling of wine and receive Free Dog Walking with any purchase over $25. Drink and eat while your pooch enjoys a walk along Palisades Park.
Pourtal has a front patio where you enjoy sips of wine while your canine kids nibble special tasty treats by Dogswell. While you sample the various wines from around the world, your dog can “unleash the fun” with Big Sky Dogs, a fully licensed, insured and bonded dog-walking service.

At Pourtal you have a choice of getting wines by the glass or by the taste. Wines by the taste change monthly and are based on various tasting tours highlighting a theme of 4-8 wines. During Wine Woof Wednesday, May themes include "Funky and Rare Reds": Funky, rare, unusual and truly esoteric wines from around the world made from either common or uncommon grapes, but definitely with non-typical characteristics and styles. The other theme will be wines produced by Women Winemakers to honor Mother’s Day.
Pourtal’s concept encourages the wine enthusiast to explore wines from award winning wineries as well as rare small farmer driven boutique wineries. There are 40 wines dispensed from Pourtal’s state of the art self-service tasting room. Purchasing a prepaid tasting card, one picks their selection and the machine dispenses 1 ounce of wine into your glass.
The Food is classified as toothpick foods - appetizers, Fork foods – salads and appetizers, Knife foods - various cheeses from Andrew’s Cheese, and Spoon foods – Desserts.
Happy Hour is served from 4 – 7 PM, Tuesday – Friday and on Monday from 4 to closing. In addition Pourtal has various events each month including tastings with various winemakers.
Visiting Pourtal, Owner Stephen Abronson served 5 wines; Roagna, a soft Dolcetto from Piedmont Italy; Pfneiszl, an austere Shiraz from Hungary; Brewer-Clifton, a light and smooth Pinot Noir from the Santa Rita Hills; Ninety Plus Cellars, a hearty Zinfandel from Australia and Neige, a flavorful apple desert wine from Canada. A plate of Burrata accompanied these wines.
