Santa Monica High School Teacher Placed On Leave After Scuffle With Student

A Santa Monica High School teacher was involved in a physical altercation with a student witnesses claim openly had a bag a marijuana in science class. Based on the footage produced by students in the room at the time, Mark Black, a teacher and wrestling coach, was put on leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

Why the student was showing that he did in fact have a bag of marijuana and was openly showing it for others to see while in a classroom is a question which will be asked until satisfactorily answered.

Black has the support of many students and parents for his actions that witnesses claim was an effort to disrupt a drug deal. However he did not have the same support from Sandra Lyon, the superintendent of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, who found the video footage "deeply disturbing."
