The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a man who hasn’t been since Wednesday and may be at-risk.
Authorities say 21-year-old Matthew Austin Abraham sustained a head injury on March 9 at Henry Cowell State Park and may be disoriented as a result. He had been thinking about his accident and officials say he often spoke of the trestle above the San Lorenzo River in the park and a hollowed out group of trees near the trestle. It is believed his injury may have resulted in his being disoriented and not knowing where he is.
According to the sheriff’s office, Abraham recently spoke of an observation deck in Henry Cowell park and the hiking trails above UCSC and may be in one of those locations.
It is not known what Abraham was wearing when he disappeared, but he has rainbow-colored hiking shoes and a large black backpack. He is possibly wearing a bracelet and necklace with a cross on it.
Abraham is a white male, 6 feet tall, and 150 pounds with blond hair and hazel eyes.
Residents are asked to inquire about Abraham’s medical condition if they come across him and notify authorities of his whereabouts immediately by calling (831) 471-1121.
