Santa Cruz PD investigating downtown stabbing

Santa Cruz police are investigating a violent stabbing that took place near downtown over the weekend.

Officers responded to Laurel and Cedar streets at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday on a report of a fight involving three people. They arrived on scene to find an adult male suffering from two stab wounds in the parking lot of 221 Laurel Street. The unidentified victim was airlifted to a Bay Area trauma center and his condition is unknown at this time.

The victim described the suspects as being Hispanic and between 17 and 18 years old with dark hair. One was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and the other was wearing a striped shirt. Police say, however, that the victim’s statements conflicted with witness accounts.

Officers searched the area and located a loaded firearm in a neighboring front yard.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Santa Cruz Police Investigations at (831) 420-5820. Anonymous tips may be left by calling (831) 420-5995.
