Santa Cruz news: Ice cream business Mission Hill Creamery opening shop in 2012

Exciting Santa Cruz restaurant news: On Wednesday, January 18, ice creamery Mission Hill Creamery announced that it is opening up a retail shop on Pacific Avenue sometime in 2012 (exact date to be announced).

As you might recall, in March 2011 Mission Hill Creamery had to close its Front Street location. But now it will have an even better spot: 1101B Pacific Avenue, right next to Taqueria Vallarta and across the street from Kianti's, Hoffman's, and Aqua Bleu. It’s the spot where Baby Shoppe Santa Cruz used to be.

Dave Kumec opened the organic Mission Hill Creamery in July 2010 (read background in my article), with delicious desserts featuring seasonal ingredients from local farms. After the retail shop closed, Kumec began stocking many local supermarkets and cafes with his wonderful products (Coffetopia, New Leaf, Whole Foods, Staff of Life, to name a few) and continued selling at local farmers markets. You can also taste the ice cream at the Santa Cruz Chocolate Festival on January 22.
