Santa Cruz Derby Girls vs. Derby Revolution of Bakersfield

Leagues: Derby Revolution of Bakersfield vs. Santa Cruz Derby Girls

Date and Time: July 11th, 2009 - Doors at 5:45 pm, Bout at 6:00 pm

Location: Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium

It seems like just last week that Santa Cruz was hosting the Jet City Roller Girls home team the Pink Pistols from Everett, Washington. Actually, it was just two weeks ago. Either way, the Santa Cruz A team the Boardwalk Bombshells are already back in action this weekend. They will be hosting the newly formed Bakersfield league the Derby Revolution of Bakersfield on Saturday night.

Though the league was just founded last year, they were born out of a split from the Bakersfield Roller Girls who had a long derby history in California. Several of the DRB girls on this weekends roster are ex-players for BRG. With a primary and secondary travel team, Bakersfield has had a very busy season so far and the primary travel teams has gotten several bouts under their belt. Their scorecard is kind of a mixed bag.

This season they've racked up wins against: Disaster City (152 - 49), NoTown (97 - 74), L.A. Derby Dolls Fight Crew (109 - 104), and San Diego Derby Dolls Hard Corps (129 - 52).

They've suffered two losses in 2009. One against Central Coast Roller Derby (117 - 36) and one against Port City (82 - 38).

On the bright side for the Bako team, their two losses were in January and April and they've been on a winning streak for their last three games. With veteran playes and notoriously hard hitters like Bonecrusher and Dred Blocker and fast jammer Tonka Toy on the squad, they're sure to provide a lot of guidance and skill for their team.

As for Santa Cruz, my favorite South-of-the-Bay league is looking to snap a current losing streak. SCDG's primary travel team the Boardwalk Bombshells have taken on a few teams this season. They were able to scratch out a win in March against the L.A. Derby Dolls home team the Sirens (128 - 122). Since then they have lost bouts against Sonoma County (167 - 56), Silicon Valley (131 - 100), and Jet City's home team the Pink Pistols (128 - 124).

Their recently narrow loss to Jet City seems to have provided a renewed motivation for Santa Cruz. With the player advantage and the home court avantage, things are looking up for the beachtown girls.

Tickets for the bout are available at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium website.
