Santa Claus Colorado mall: 'Runaway deer' gets away from mall enclosure

A Santa Claus at a Colorado mall lost one of his reindeer whilst visiting children. On Dec. 7, Fox News reported that a mall Santa was taking photos with children and listening to their Christmas lists when a reindeer got out of its enclosure and pranced away. This happened at the La Riva Mall in Dillon -- and fortunately this story has a happy ending.

"The reindeer was located on the other side of a nearby reservoir. The Summit County sheriff's office brought in another reindeer to lure the runaway and get it back into a trailer," Fox News reported.

The Santa Claus at the Colorado mall didn't own the reindeer by any means -- the deer was simply part of the holiday display. The deer was outside of the mall when it managed to escape. It is likely that the deer was sitting with a sleigh or something similar that let children know that Santa was inside.

Fortunately no one was hurt in the incident and the deer wasn't injured either. No word on why the deer tried to get away (if he was spooked or what have you). It's unknown if this deer will be visiting any more malls with Santa or if he will hang up his hooves for the season.

The Santa Claus was at the Colorado mall for an unknown period of time before the deer decided it was time to go.
