Santa Clara County Parks Docent and Ridge Trail Council volunteer Sam Drake will be leading a geocaching adventure on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Santa Teresa County Park. Billed as an introductory class, Drake will go over the basics of geocaching starting at 8:45am at the Fortini Trailhead off of San Vicente Avenue. Then, the attendees will be split into smaller groups of students, each of which will be led by an experienced geocacher from the local hobbyist organization, The Geocachers of the Bay Area.
The groups will hike along the Stile Ranch, Mine, and Fortini Trails, seeking out several caches along the way. Stile Ranch is part of the Ridge Trail encircling the Bay Area. GPS units will be provided for the groups, allowing anybody interested in geocaching to try the sport for free.
Reservations are required for this class and can be made through County Parks at (408) 355-2240 or online. The class, including the hike, is scheduled to last 3 hours and 15 minutes (until noon), and attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and to bring sun protection and water. Free parking is available at the lot at the trailhead.
