The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is an excellent day trip for those who love the outdoors. Located at 1212 Mission Canyon Road, the Garden boasts over 1,000 types of flora in 40 acres with over 5.5 miles of public trails—all of which are meant to display the diversity of California’s native plants.
The American Association of Museums has classified the Garden as a living museum, and it is open to visitors seven days a week, excluding major holidays. From March through October the Garden is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from November through February it is open 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults.
Visitors can do a self-guided walk through the Garden, which includes a complimentary map. For those who want guided tours, the Garden offers several types of tours, including a Seasonal Nature Walk Tour and a Specialty Tour Series. All tours are included with admission to the Garden and last about one hour.
Anyone looking to turn his or her Garden experience into an educational one also has the opportunity to attend classes and lectures. Check the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden website for more details.
Additionally, Garden visitors can purchase souvenirs at the Garden Shop, which offers books on nature, music, lotions, stationary, tea towels, shirts, bookmarks, lamps, and even garden sculptures.
