Sankey added a 31-yard touchdown catch and quarterback Keith Price completed 28 of 35 passes for 342 yards and two touchdowns.
A rejuvenated Kevin Smith caught five passes for 104 yards as the Huskies racked up 615 yards of offense. Jaydon Mickens continued his strong play with eight receptions and a nice 9-yard touchdown catch and run.
After a rather pedestrian first half saw the Dawgs take a 10-3 halftime lead, the Huskies came out flying in the second half.
A Sankey 1-yard touchdown run gave the Huskies a 17-3 lead, and after an Illinois touchdown, scores by Jesse Callier and Mickens put Washington up 31-10.
Illinois battled back, scoring two touchdowns to make it a 31-24 game, but the Huskies added a field goal and played sound defense down the stretch to hold on for the road victory.
The Huskies outgained Illinois 615-327 and averaged 5.5 yards per rush compared with just 3.8 yards per carry for Illinois.
The Dawgs improved to 2-0 on the season. Washington hosts Idaho State on Saturday.
