Buddhists here in Syracuse have been waiting anxiously to see what direction the newly elected Prime Minister of the Tibet-government-in-exile, Dr Lobsang Sangay, will be taking for Tibetan politics. In consideration of the tense situation for Buddhists in Chinese occupied Tibet daily prayers are said by Buddhists here in Syracuse for their well being. And so strong leadership from Sangay in dealing with the human rights of Tibetan Buddhists has been desired here.
The leadership of Sangay is now quickly evolving as being more courageous and stronger than anticipated. Already, Sangay has blasted The Peoples Republic of China as not having legitimate rights to govern Tibet. Lobsang Wangyal has reported for the Tibet Sun "China's rule in Tibet is undemocratic and illegitimate: Kalon Tripa."
The Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration, which is popularly called the Prime Minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile, has said on the occasion of the 51st Tibetan Democracy Day on Friday, that Chinese rule in Tibet is undemocratic and illegitimate. Dr Lobsang Sangay said “We are part of a democratic family in the world, China is not. The Kalon Tripa is the legitimate representative of the Tibetan people, while China’s rule in Tibet is undemocratic and illegitimate. China cannot be a legitimate superpower without accepting the universality of freedom. I call upon the Chinese regime to respect the freedom of both the Tibetan and Chinese people.”
In reference to the Dalai Lama giving up his political power Sangay has said “The devolution of political power by the Dalai Lama is not solely to me, but to all Tibetans. The time has now come for us to demonstrate that we can survive and indeed thrive independently with our new responsibilities. We must actively participate in the democratic process by ensuring that our leaders remain accountable and true to the democratic spirit.” As the political style of Sangay now emerges as aggressive and ambitious his supporters worldwide will have to pray Communist Chinese agents do not try to cause him harm.
