Sandra Oh is leaving behind Cristina Yang, and “Grey’s Anatomy.” The actress who plays the sassy surgeon will leave the popular medical drama after its upcoming tenth season, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Aug. 13.
"We have a story that we want to tell and we want to tell it really well, and that story isn't about her leaving the show as much as it is Cristina Yang's growth as a person and as a surgeon,” the show’s creator Shonda Rimes said.
Sandra Oh is one of “Grey’s Anatomy’s” original stars, and started out the show with main character, Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, and four other interns as they embarked on their career as doctors at Seattle Grace Hospital.
However, along the way the show has lost beloved characters such as Katherine Heigl’s Izzie Stevens, and T.R. Knight’s George O’Malley.
Oh has been a fan favorite since the beginning, and has become a very important part of the cast, and story that surround the doctors at Seattle Grace/Mercy West hospital.
Shonda Rhimes confirms that Sandra’s character, Cristina Yang, will depart at the end of season 10, which begins airing this fall on ABC, but won’t give away any details. “I know how it ends, but I'm not going to say anything else,” she says.
