Pilar Sanders took the stand again this morning in the fourth day of the Sanders trial to determine custody of their children, in what some are referring to as the ‘nastiest divorce in sports history’ and started to testify about Deion Sanders taking steroids.
During Pilar’s testimony, Deion ‘Sideline’ Sanders stood up and bolted out of the courtroom as Pilar’s lawyer pulled out a box of steroids, in which Pilar claims they belong to Deion,his attorneys objected. The jury was removed from the courtroom immediately, in order for the judge to continue to hear arguments.
"I believe the prejudicial value outweighs the appropriateness. Not gonna allow it." -Judge Ray Wheless ruled that the testimony was too prejudicial and banned the jury from hearing any evidence on the matter.
"This does make sense, he's Deion Sanders! His kids want to be like him; play football, steroids laying around! Within reach!" -Pilar’s attorney replied, and went on to add "He knows damn well he'd bring out evidence like this if it wasn't his ass on the line!"
Attorney Rick Robertson claimed that Deion Sanders has never used steroids. Attorney Luke Gunnstaks continued to tell the judge that the issue was relevant because the controlled substances were in a closet that was accessible to the children.
One would naturally assume that if Deion was or is abusing/using steroids this would sway jurors in Pilar’s favor in regards to the custody and safety of the Sanders children.
Sources inside the courtroom have stated Deion has yet to return to the courtroom, and has not been visible since the steroid claim was made in the trial.
