Caroline Nicolai was arrested in the Hobby Airport area for suspicion of public intoxication. On the way to a sobriety center, Nicole Moser, drunk driving, ran a red light, crashed into the police cruiser, killing Nicolai. Drunk driving in Houston is common, but then, so is violent crime.
Houston’s mayoral candidate Ben Hall is using the city’s increase of in violent crimes to paint a portrait of failure on behalf of Annise Parker. This use of theatrics is for political purposes only. Hall has called press conferences with scenes of deadly crimes in the background. A Chinese restaurant on the Southeast side where the owner was murdered and a Denny’s restaurant where a man was killed during a robbery, as he was protecting children. While these staged events are indeed, lower than low, it’s typical of Houston Liberal politics.
“We are right now facing a crime spree in Houston,” Hall said. “And our mayor remains silent on this very important issue.”
Houston is a sanctuary city and ‘not letting a good crisis go to waste,' we are quickly becoming a lawless society. Here’s some examples from the last 24 hours.
During a traffic stop, a male suspect, during an altercation with a HISD officer, took off with the officer’s weapon. Five teenagers were arrested for evading arrest after a traffic stop of a stolen vehicle. On the North side of town, two men, standing in front of a convenience store was shot by two men wearing mask. In Northwest Houston, during the early morning hours, a man was found shot to death on the sidewalk in a apartment complex.
Hall may be on to something, but his remedy is to place cameras over the city, which will, for all intent and purpose, never happen. Parker’s camp claims Hall is only exploiting these tragedies for his purpose.
‘It’s shameful that Ben Hall continues to exploit tragedies and interfere with ongoing investigations in order to promote his own political campaign,’ said Sue Davis, a spokesperson for the Parker campaign. ‘This takes Ben Hall’s self-dealing to a new extreme.’
That’s true about Hall’s campaign, but now, the crimes associated with a sanctuary haven are a reality. When you ignore the reality, you’re aiding and abetting the increase in crime.
